Move-in cleaning after renovation should be coordinated with the construction handover, not treated as a substitute for it. Confirm which work is actually complete

Check for pending sanding, drilling, painting or installation. Ask the project contact when debris and unused materials will be removed. Detailed cleaning and heavy-rubble removal are different scopes unless expressly combined. Mark rooms that are ready and rooms that still require work. Share the move-in date, but do not assume an unfinished site can receive its final clean without a later return visit.

Document new finishes and existing damage

Photograph floors, counters, glass and cabinetry before treatment. Provide product specifications or care instructions when available. Paint, adhesive and grout residues should be assessed for compatibility with the underlying material. Record scratches, chips and installation defects separately so they are not confused with removable dirt during handover. A test may be needed before treating bonded residue across a larger area.

Agree the detailed-cleaning scope

List accessible high surfaces, cabinet interiors, tracks, glazing and appliance interiors when you want them included. Confirm who removes protective coverings and whether any finishes must remain protected. Arrange water, electricity, access and clear work areas. Coordinate deliveries and furniture installation so they do not block unfinished cleaning or damage a surface that has not met its return-to-use conditions.

Keep cleaning observations and construction defects separate

Walk through the agreed areas before unpacking. Record remaining residue with a clear location and photograph, and maintain a separate punch list for the builder. Follow drying and use instructions before placing rugs or furniture. If a residue cannot be removed without affecting the finish, ask for the limitation and available options to be explained. A careful handover relies on the agreed scope and the condition of the actual materials.
